Boasting of a spectator capacity of 17,472, Assembly Hall is home to the IU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Bloomington's Indiana University. Founded in the year 1971, it serves as the home turf of Indian Hoosiers league. The basketball court was built in memory of Branch McCracken, the school's basketball coach instrumental in the team's NCAA National Championship wins in 1940, followed by 1953. Of noted importance are the Athletic Hall of Fame, trophy shelves and the NCAA placards. The arena also remains popular as one of the loudest venues of college basketball tournaments. At the Varsity Shop, you can find an excellent collection of IU mementos to take back home.
