Balingen's Marktplatz not only lies at the heart of the city center, but also lies at the center of the city's cultural arena. Although often used as a venue for markets, fairs and concerts, the Marktplatz is best know as the venue for the city's annual Open-Air Festival. Sprawled before the historic edifice of the town church, and surrounded by several cafes, hotels and boutiques, the Marktplatz is forever bustling with life and activity. A weekly market is held at the square every Saturday, offering a selection of fresh produce alongside local specialties.
