With well-pruned lawns and plenty of shady spaces, the Western Gateway Park is one of the nicest spots in all of Des Moines. Here is where groups of friends, families, students and visitors stop by to unwind and catch up. President Obama delivered a speech here at this park in 2008 to amid scores of cheering loyalists. Home to a number of annual events, the Des Moines Arts Festival is perhaps the most-awaited one here.
