Ohio River

The Ohio River is one of the largest rivers in the country and it stretches across almost 981 miles (1578.76 km). It passes through several cities and states on its way from Pennsylvania to Illinois. Throughout history, the river has played an important role from being a fur trading route to being a part of the underground railroad. It also functioned as one of the major border crossings between Northern United States and Southern United States, earning it the moniker, "Road to Freedom." Considered one of the mighty American rivers, Ohio River is of historic, environmental and economic importance.
