Originally an initiative to salvage a piece of the old downtown scheduled for demolition and to create a visible presence for the city’s grassroots art scene, this small complex of exhibition spaces (and artist’s collective) has, since its establishment, become very well known. The Gaengenviertel offers a solid schedule of performances, events and exhibitions, both by Hamburg-based and visiting artists. Information on upcoming events can be found on the Gaengenviertel webpage or in the Infoladen, a small information center on Valentinskamp 39, open Thursday - Sunday from 3pm to 5pm.
