Located in the heart of the city, Stavanger Cathedral was established in the early 12th Century and is definitively Norway's oldest cathedral. A masterpiece from the middle ages, this magnificent cathedral is dedicated to Saint Swithun and has been the arch-deanery of the Stavanger Diocese since inception. The building that stands today is very close to the original structure, although it had suffered significant fire damage in the late 13th Century. An architectural blend of Romanesque and Gothic styles, the stone building and it's beautiful interiors have been remarkably well-preserved, taking visitors back in time.
