The Parkersburg City Park can trace its beginnings to 1897 when 42 acres of land were set aside to build a park for the people. Soon after, a Memorial Fountain was built by the stately gates as a donation from the wealthy Jackson family. The Henry Cooper log house which was built in 1910 adorns a section of the park. Picnic areas, horseshoe pits, tennis courts, basketball, baseball fields and playing grounds for kids are some reasons why the city park is so popular.
