The 1540-acre (623-hectare) Paris Mountain State Park began during the Great Depression and since then, it has provided a green getaway for Greenville and Spartanburg families. Owing to its excellent topography and sheltering a 13 acre (5.2 acres) Lake Placid, the park plays host to several activities like boating, hiking, swimming, biking and many other pursuits in the Great Outdoors. However, the state park is as much rooted in culture as it is in nature. Once a land inhabited by the aboriginal Cherokee Indians, this entrancing state park is flecked with an array of rustic, country-like campsites, while its dense woods are traversed by various trails and fascinating wildlife. The visitors center is located in a renovated bathhouse and it holds exhibits, maps and other information about the surrounding flora and fauna.
