The Vancouver Island lays sprawled at the southwestern tip of the Canadian state of British Columbia. The island measures 460 kilometers (290 miles) long and at its widest, measures 80 kilometers (50 miles), and is the 43rd largest island in the world. Though the island is home to the the city of Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, much of it is protected for the wealth of wildlife it contains. The abundance of natural rarity and beauty is what makes this island a very popular tourist destination, and has also been the location for many famous Hollywood movies, including Seven Years in Tibet, The Scarlett Letter, and Little Women.
