One of the premier event venues in Barnard Castle, the Witham Hall can be found on the bustling Horsemarket, near Market Place in the center of town. The hall is named after Henry Witham of Lartington, as a tribute to him and in recognition of his contribution to Barnard Castle. Since its construction in 1854, the hall has been used for various purposes, though it fell into neglect in the 1970s and early 1980s. Restoration efforts have brought the hall back to life, and it continue to be a prominent venue for local events, including being the venue for the comedy club Hilarity Bites in Barnard Castle.
