Williamsburg

This bustling and lively neighborhood in North Brooklyn was first occupied by the Dutch in the 17th Century, the British and Germans in the 18th and 19th, Italians and Puerto Ricans in the 20th and now all kinds of people from all over the world call Williamsburg home. Today, the area is mostly known for its hipster residents, however the neighborhood offers a mix of historical novelty and modern trends that merit a visit. The neighborhood is also at the forefront of development, both artistically and economically, and though many of its former residents have been displaced, old festivals like the Feast of St. Paulinus and traditions by many Hasidic Jews are apparent throughout. Apart from festivities, Williamsburg is known as a thriving hub for music, restaurants and style. During the 1980s, many clubs and music venues opened in abandoned public spaces. Its notable residents include Henry Miller, Barbra Streisand, Alex Turner and The Gregory Brothers. Truly, Williamsburg represents the vivid and vivacious spirit of New York.
