While the mysteries of the Williamson Tunnels are yet to be fully unraveled, the underground labyrinth makes for an intriguing exploration, with the Williamson Tunnels Heritage Centre building on what little is known about them. Established in 2002, the center aims to uncover the purpose behind the tunnels commissioned by Joseph Williamson, a well-know tobacco merchant and philanthropist. The center was responsible for restoration and exploration of a section of tunnels which is now open to the public. Guided tours conducted by the center take you on a fascinating journey through the life of the merchant and how the tunnels came to be built. Drop in for a peek into this mysterious underbelly of Liverpool.
