This royal estate belonged to Charlotte Buff during the late eighteenth century, who modeled Lotte in Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's The Sorrows of Young Werther. The house was converted into a memorial and is managed by the city of Wetzlar's museum department and the permanent exhibition includes images and information about the Buff family with the furniture and decor still intact.
