TOURIST ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTSEEING, PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Abtei Schweiklberg is a Benedictine monastery, consecrated in the year 1904, located in the lower Bavarian town of Vilshofen an der Donau. The abbey, has an extensive library with more than 150,000 books, living quarters, a refectory, an infirmary and an art nouveau chapel which was built by the famous German architect, Michael Kurz. A part of the monastery also houses the Africa Museum which contains displays of tribal artifacts brought back by missionaries returning from Africa. An interesting fact about the monastery is the production of Schweiklberger Geist which is a herbal medicine made here and transported across the world.
