The imposing Forchtenstein Castle is considered to be one of the most significant landmarks of Burgenland. Located in the heart of Burgenland's west-facing peaks, the stately monument was constructed to shield the town boundaries from the attackers in the 13th Century. It is the sole bulwark of Burgenland which never went down during the long-lived Turkish wars. The castle's soaring keep is one of its key highlights and can be seen from a faraway distance. Forchtenstein Castle was used by the royals of Esterházy to store all their prized possessions. The royal families' personal collections are exhibited today in a charming atmosphere.
