Although its glory days have long passed, Burg Lindenfels continues to watch over the town of Lindenfels and its environs from atop its lofty perch. The earliest mention of this hilltop fortress can be traced back to 1080, making it one of Odenwald's oldest castles. Over the years, Burg Lindenfels was repeatedly expanded and altered until it came to be a grand and formidable castle. Over time nature took its course, reducing this once magnificent fortress to a set of romantic ruins. The ruins of Burg Lindenfels can be visited throughout the year, however guided tours are available only once a month from April through October. Today, Burg Lindenfels is often used as a venue for outdoor events, medieval tournaments and the annual Castle and Costume Festival.
