One of the best moated castles you’ll see in the country, Vischering Castle was established in the 13th Century by Bishop Gerhard von der Mark. Shaped like a horse-shoe, the castle was built in sandstone and features a red gabled roof. The castle faced severe damage after a fire broke out in the 16th Century. However, it was restored to its original state soon. The castle is open to public visitation and is especially popular for the interesting Münsterlandmuseum that displays information on knighthood. The castle is home to the famous Jazz music festival called 'BurgJazz' and other cultural events like the Knights' Camp, Magicians Gala and children's theater. With so much to offer, the castle is not to be missed.
