Kirchplatz 3, Biberach, 88400
The time-worn church of St. Martin is located in the heart of the Old Town. Considered to be the oldest church in the town, it traces back its roots to the 7th Century. In the 12th Century, a church was built in the Romanesque style and this structure was later replaced with a Gothic building in the 14th Century. Considerable renovations and additions were made to the church in the later centuries. The church’s architecture is simply brilliant and the ceiling is one of the most notable features of the church. Beautifully painted frescoes on the ceiling tell stories from the Bible. The masterpiece was created by Johannes Zick in the 18th Century. The church has many other commendable relics like the 15th-Century pulpit with Gothic designs, the 16th Century statue St. Anne on the nave, baroque confessionals, and spectacular paintings by J. Esperlin.
