The Memorial Church of the Protestation or Protestantischen Gedächtniskirchengemeinde Speyer is a major tourist attraction of the city. It boasts of having the highest German church tower between the cities of Cologne and Strasbourg. Soaring at a height of 100 meters (328 feet), it awes visitors from far and wide. Built between 1893-1904, the magnificent facade of the church was designed by a team of architects - Julius Flügge, Carl Nordmann, Johannes Vollmer and Fernando Lorenzen. They were shortlisted from 45 participants of the architectural competition held in 1884. Other distinctive features include the Luther memorial, the statue of David, the mesmerizing stained-glass windows depicting biblical themes, the elaborate pulpit and a beautiful organ. A must visit for all!
