Replacing a former dilapidated castle, the hilltop Burg Dürrmenz was built in 1220- 1240. It is located at a height of 280 meters (918 feet) above sea level. Over the years, the castle has seen several owners. It is speculated that a fire in the year 1500 left the castle in its current state. Today, the famous ruins are maintained by the Memorial Foundation Baden-Württemberg.
