A town steeped in history, Ettlingen is one of the biggest cities in the region of Baden-Württemberg. It is nestled at the confluence of the picturesque Rhine valley and the Albtals. The river Alb flows through Ettlingen, which then meets the Rhine river. A major attraction of the city is the imposing Ettlinger castle. During summers, the mansion's sprawling courtyard hosts the castle festival. The town's theater club is bustling with events lined up throughout the year. Ever since the year 1998, the town also hosts the biennial Internationalen Wettbewerb für junge Pianisten, an international contest welcoming pianists from different parts of the globe.
