Reading Museum was established in 1883 in Reading Town Hall and is currently managed by Reading Museum Service. The museum features displays of archaeology, ethnology, art and natural history. Located inside a 17th century building, the museum is divided into eleven galleries; Reading: People & Place, Silchester Gallery, Bayeux Gallery, Green Space, Huntley & Palmers Gallery, Windows Gallery, John Madejski Art Gallery and the Exhibition Gallery. They have exhibits dating back to as far the 6th century and the Bayeux tapestry is one of the major attractions of the museum. They also have exhibits on geology and natural sciences. They museum aims at explaining the history of Reading in all categories.
