Le Métaphone is nestled in the former coal mining town of Oignies and located in a historic coal mine, the 9-9bis Oignies. This one-of-a-kind concert hall has musical facades that vibrate with instrumental sounds. Designed by Louis Dandrel, a musician and sound designer, the hall is built in steel, glass and wood. Twenty four acoustic instruments such as xylophones, organ, drums and cymbals are set up on the outer walls of the porch's entrance and are connected to the control booth. The design of Le Métaphone is that of an organ and concerts are customized keeping in mind to include the beautiful chimes it emanates. Le Métaphone means the big voice in French and is a wonderful hall for music.
