The Tonto National Forest is the largest national forest in Arizona. It is also one of the most visited forests in the country. The forest, encompassing an area of 2,873,200 acres (1162742.7 hectares), features rugged terrains, higher elevated desert, and verdant pine forests. There are six water bodies that add to the beauty of the pristine landscape. Thanks to its serene location, Tonto National Forest is ideal for outdoor activities like biking, hiking, climbing, horseback riding, hunting, and camping. Thriving with wildlife such as bald eagles, prairie falcons, desert mule deer, and javelinas, it is also a spectacular wildlife viewing and birding destination.
