What was once a luxurious hotel, is now an iconic structure in international history. Built in the mid-1870s, this building opened its doors as the Hôtel National, spread across five floors and housing 225 cozy rooms. It became the seat of the League of Nations that was formed in 1920 and pioneered by US President Woodrow Wilson. Following his death, this structure was named after him in 1924. When the League of Nations moved to Palais des Nations, Palais Wilson was home to various government offices and even functioned as a hotel for a while. Following a series of misfortunes, Palais Wilson was restored to its former glory and became the headquarters of the Human Rights Commission in 1997. Today the name, Palais Wilson, is synonymous with The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
