As you explore the Historic District, you will come across this gem of a museum. Founded as the Earle W. Newton Center for British American Studies in 2002, the SCAD Museum of Art is not only a resource for the students of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) but also for anyone interested in contemporary art. This teaching museum has a fascinating permanent collection. These are the 19th and 20th-century Photography Collections, Earle W. Newton Collection of British, American Art and SCAD Costume Collection and Walter O. Evans Collection of African American Art. The last one is among the biggest African American art collection in the nation. There are over 4500 artistic displays which includes artists like Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Andy Warhol and Willem de Kooning. Housed in a beautiful 19th-century building, this museum will enthrall you with its architecture and assemblage.
