A key ferry port and a town, Calais is a popular vacation destination. Dover's White Cliffs are visible on a bright day from the beautiful town of Calais. Owing to its location, Calais port serves as a major link between England and France. Since the year 1994, Calais' Channel Tunnel has provided connectivity between Folkestone and Coquelles by rail. There are several tourist attractions in Calais. One of the biggest squares of Calais is Place d'Armes. Situated close to the watchtower, Place d'Armes served as the city's focal point during ancient times. The watchtower, called Tour du Guet is one of those rare buildings from pre-war period that is still seen at Calais Nord.
