Princetown, Princetown, PL20
Lying 1400 feet (423 meters) above the sea level, Princetown is an ancient town and also the highest one on the beautiful moor. Famous as one of England's most wettest towns, Princetown remains renowned for the controversial Dartmoor Prison. The village's origins can be traced back to the year 1785. Prince of Wales' secretary, Sir Thomas Tyrwhitt, offered a huge part of the moorland on lease. Today, Princetown remains frequented by walkers and it is not uncommon to spot many young walkers armed with rucksacks, particularly in summer months. You can also visit the local brewery that produces Legend, Dartmoor IPA and Jail Ale.
