Lamspringe Abbey is located close to the city of Hildesheim in Lower Saxony region of Germany. It was constructed in 847 by Count Ricdag as a house for Augustinian canonesses. Before it fell to ruin as a result of the Thirty Years’ War, the nuns converted to Lutheranism. In the 17th century, it came to serve as a home for the exiled Benedictine monks of England. The monks transformed the derelict monastic buildings into a flourishing abbey once more. After the abbey was dissolved in 1803, and the monks returned to their motherland, the abbey church was transformed into a parish church which continues on as a lace of worship even today. The gardens of the Lamspringe Abbey are a popular tourist attraction, while its other buildings are used as a venue for cultural, private and community events.
