Lake Annecy is the third largest lake in France and is heralded as Europe's cleanest lake. This latter fact is thanks to the very strict environmental regulations that were set up to the protect the lake and the surrounding area in the 1960s. The 82-meter (269-feet) deep lake is fed by five rivers, as well as the Boubioz, an underwater power source. Visitors to the lake can take a dip in its refreshingly blue waters, or participate in water sports like kayaking and SUPing. A cycling trail goes around a section of the lake that allows cyclists endless views of the lake and the mountains that surround it.
