Situated in the Grund district of Luxembourg, Neumunster Abbey is a cultural center and community meeting place. The original abbey was demolished in 1542 and this new abbey was built by monks in 1606. This new abbey was destroyed by fire but was rebuilt in the same location with a few extensions in 1720. Serving as a prison and police station during the French Revolution, it later became Prussia's barracks and later a prison to political resisters during World War II. Lucien Wercollier Cloister, Luxembourgs's renowned sculptor has his artworks displayed in the abbey.
