A small strip of land surrounded by the sea, Cadiz' claim to fame is not just restricted to being home of the world famous Cadiz Carnival. With its history dating back to 1104 BCE, it is also known all over as the oldest inhabited city in Western Europe. The city administration's elaborate effort to preserve the historic structures has resulted in a lot of historic landmarks for the tourists to explore. As a result, it possesses an elaborate wealth of heritage structures that fringe the coastline of the city. Among these are the important city landmarks like Plaza San Antonio, Plaza de Mina, Tavira Tower, Pylons of Cadiz and Fortress of Candelaria, which are known for their distinctive architecture style. The Roman theater, which was excavated in 1980, dates back to the 1st century BCE, and is credited to be one of the largest theaters to be built by the Roman Empire. La Caleta, the isolated beach which has inspired numerous Spanish poets and philosophers, is still revered for its natural beauty and serenity. Make sure you include this city in your itinerary of your travel in Spain.
