The capital town of Appenzell is found in the Appenzell Innerrhoden canton of Switzerland, with its never ending vistas of rolling, verdant hills in the summer. Home of the special-purpose municipality, Feuerschaugemeinde, the town was formerly called Abbacella in the 11th Century. Basking in a beautiful history, the Appenzell town has many heritage institutions and monuments, including the ruins of the Clanx Castle, the entire village center with its rustic, half timbered buildings exuding quintessential Swiss charm, and the simple yet stunning parish church. The town turns into a winter wonderland during the colder months, covered in a blanket of snow, offering a host of winter activities such as skiing, sledding, winter walking and more.
