First known as Mure from the 12th Century, Muri bei Bern municipality is a historic settlement in Bern canton. Archaeological excavations carried out in the 19th Century suggest that the site was occupied since the Roman era. It is now situated on an upland atop Aare river's right bank and comprises the villages of Gümligen and Muri. Gümligen castle and Hofgut estate are major historical attractions here. Other sights include Muri castle and Aarebad Muri.
