Earlier known as the Dargun Abbey, the Dargun Castle was first established in the 12th Century as a Cistercian monastery. Located in the Dargun village of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the building was converted into a palace by the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The brick monastery was established in the 14th Century with a church built in the Gothic style. The palace was burnt down but was again rebuilt in the 17th Century and today houses a small public library along with an information bureau.
