Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice
Established in the year 1935 in the Polish capital, Narodowa Orkiestra Symfoniczna Polskiego Radia is regarded as one of the country's finest musical facilities. Originally directed by celebrated Polish conductor Grzegorz Fitelberg till World War II, it was reopened in the city of Katowice by Witold Rowicki. In its illustrious history, the orchestra has to its credit over 198 recordings of compact discs featuring several known international and Polish labels including Philips, EMI and Decca. It serves as a lively venue for a host of well-curated classical and contemporary music gigs by famous musicians. In the past, it has welcomed artists like the popular American jazz producer Marcus Miller and the acclaimed Polish film and jazz music virtuoso Leszek Mozdzer.
