The Finger Lakes rank high among New York State's most famous attractions. These lakes are parallel to each other and their narrow and elongated shape gives them the appearance of fingers. Of these, Cayuga Lake is the longest and stretches for 40 miles (64.37 kilometers) in the north-south direction. It is also the second largest lake after Seneca Lake. It is surrounded by public parks, marinas and famous tourist attractions. The surrounding region is part of the Finger Lakes AVA and is best known for its picturesque vineyards, distilleries and wineries. It is a paradise for hikers, birdwatchers, cyclists, hunters and sailors. Embark on the Cayuga Wine Trail for wine tasting sessions and tour some of the scenic dairy and organic farms. Visitors can also head to one of the marinas to watch the magnificent sunset over the lake.
