Bergstrasse 2, Vaduz, 9490
Nestled in the shrubbery that shrouds a small hill in Vaduz, the stately castle overlooks the surrounding town and the fragrant vineyards that crouch its foothills. It is believed that the mighty structure was originally built as a fortified bastion in the 12th Century, with provisions for accommodation being added much later. The living rooms were supposedly constructed in the year 1287, while the first recorded mention of the castle constructed in its entirety dates back to the year 1322. Home to the Prince of Liechtenstein, this formidable castle has served as the Princely Family's residence since the year 1712. Adjacent to the castle, the St. Anna chapel dates back to the Middle Ages as well, and boasts of a remarkable late-gothic altar that is easily one of its most striking elements. As the castle befell sufficient ruin over the years, it was heavily remodeled between the years 1905 and 1920, and even underwent expansion in the 1930s under the supervision of Prince Franz Joseph II.
