Located along the Ebro River, the capital city of El Rioja is characterized by cobbled streets, shaded avenues lined with trees and a string of pinxtos (tapas) bars. Although known to be a center of trade for the famed Spanish Rioja wines, this scenic town is fast gaining status as one of the more definitive spots in Spain to have delicious tapas. The city enjoys mild Mediterranean climes, and is one of the passing towns on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrim route. Logroño is also known to be famous for its chapels and churches, the more well-known among them being the Santa Maria de Palacio and the church of San Bartolome.
