Constructed in 1896, the Eichelberger Performing Arts Center began its life as the Eichelberg Academy. The monumental building was constructed at the behest of Abdiel W. Eichelberger to serve as an educational resource, first for the academy and later for the public education system. When new rules deemed the building unfit for use as a school, it was transformed into the vibrant performing arts center that it is today. The Eichelberger Performing Arts Center offers a varied program of concerts, theatrical performances, and other cultural programs, as well as educational programs for adults and youth. The performing arts center is a well-equipped and atmospheric venue indeed, housed as it is within a building that has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Although no longer a school, the Eichelberger Performing Arts Center honors the legacy of its namesake by enriching the lives of its patrons through the performing arts.
