The first independent, self-governing orchestra in England at its formation in 1904, the London Symphony Orchestra was also the first English orchestra to play overseas and in the United States. Narrowly escaping disaster when the orchestra was forced to change a performance schedule in 1912, preventing them from sailing aboard the Titanic, the London Sympohny Orchestra has also survived multiple wars and bankruptcies, proving it to be an orchestra that will last through the ages.
