Upon hearing Angie Stone's idyllic yet thundering voice, many listeners are immediately smitten with the singer's characteristic vocal style. She began singing in a South Carolina church gospel group in 1979, but then in the early 1980s she began performing with an all female hip-hop/funk trio called The Sequence. Stone would go on to release three albums with The Sequence and sing backing vocals with Lenny Kravitz, but she didn't find her strength as a modern R&B and soul diva until 1999, when she released her debut solo album Black Diamond. Stone has since gone on to sing in a quintessential gospel style and has started honing her religiously inspired music with frequent tours and collaborations with other gospel musicians.
