Fischer-Z is an English rock band that was formed by chief singer/songwriter John Watts and Steve Skolnik while they were students at Brunel University. Drawing upon his experiences studying clinical psychology and working in the mental health care field, Watts was able to convey several interpersonal and societal issues into a number of the band's early songs. On the group's 1979 debut LP, World Salad, Fischer-Z blended a number of varied styles including new wave, punk and reggae to create a unique sonic amalgam that helped win the group a large fan base in its native UK.
