Formed in 1988 in Palm Desert, California, Kyuss would go on to be become one of the more noteworthy acts of the respective genre that it helped to create: stoner rock. With lurching guitars, throbbing rhythms and dissonant vocals, the band built a reputation for itself as one that could deliver the goods when it came to creating memorable songs worth more than just a passing listen. Though the band officially split up in 1995, a few original members (sans guitarist and vocalist Josh Homme) have reformed the group under the Kyuss Lives! guise to breathe life back into the songs that helped establish the group as one of the more commendable acts of the stoner rock genre.
