The Sea and Cake is an indie rock band that formed in the early 1990s. The Chicago-based four-piece outfit came together after the demise of its members' former bands, the jazz quartet Coctails and alternative group Shrimp Boat. After spending significant time jamming as a unit, the band emerge with its now characteristic style of restrained indie rock full of drum machines, quiet vocals and synthesizers. Though the group took a short hiatus in 2004, The Sea and Cake returned with renewed energy in 2007 with the album Everybody, and has since continued to record new material and tour the US.
