Brasstronaut

By blending elements of jazz, alternative rock and modern pop, the Vancouver-based band Basstronaut has managed to latch onto a characteristic sound that's engrossing yet timid at times. Formed in 2007, most of Basstronaut's songs center around piano arrangements that focus on creating song-centric chord changes with the resulting instruments following suit. The group released i's debut EP, Old World Lies, in 2008 and it helped establish the group as a band that's willing to blur genre lines and incorporate various instruments such as trumpets and steel guitars to give its unique songs added depth.
