Formed in 1997, Del Rey is a post-rock band from Chicago, Illinois created by five friends who decided to start experimenting with synthesizing various disparate genres in a dank Chicago attic. A few years later in 1999, Del Rey released its debut EP dlry to significant acclaim for a band performing in the experimental post-rock genre at the time. The EP was celebrated as a masterful growing effort on the part of the quintet, and Del Rey's subsequent LP, Speak it Not Aloud, would take the best aspects of the band's experimental sound and combine them into a coherent debut album that would ensure the group's continued success into the 2000s. So far, Del Ray's sound has continued to mature with each album that has been released since the band's debut in 1997, and is considered to be one of Chicago's premier post-rock exports.
