Canadian guitarist Erik Mongrain is known for his acoustic style and lap tapping technique. His finesse with a six-string and the ease with which he incorporates multiple playing styles makes it hardly believable that he taught himself how to play guitar at the age of fourteen. After learning on an electric guitar, Mongrain developed an interest in classical and acoustic guitar and eventually taught himself how to read compose music. Mongrain released his first album Fates, on his website in 2006, finally exposing his distinctive and textured music to the world. During his live shows he sits cross-legged and often lays the guitar on his lap, tapping strings on the fret or creating minimal beats on the face of his guitar. In 2008 Mongrain released Equilibrium, a result of the exploration and experience of his 2007 world tour.
