From the San Fernando Valley in southern California, Steve Lukather is a singer/songwriter, musician and producer best known as the guitarist in the rock band Toto. When Toto broke up in 2008 after 19 years together, Lukather and his band mates had already established names for themselves in the music industry and seamlessly transitioned into session and solo careers. Known for his efficiency in the studio, Lukather was among the most sought-after guitarists throughout the 1970s and 1980s and worked with legendary artists such as Aretha Franklin, George Benson and Michael Jackson. He has released six solo albums of guitar-based, blues and jazz inspired progressive rock, the most introspective and experimental of which was Luke, his 1997 release recorded mostly during live sessions with minimal production. On his 2010 album All's Well That Ends Well, he focused on the narrative powers of lyrics and less on his already established melodic and intensive guitar skills. Lukather has been awarded five Grammy's, including Best R& B song for his lyrical work on George Benson's "Turn Your Love Around," and Album of the Year and Producer of the year in 1982 for his work with Toto, solidifying his name in rock music history.
