John Martyn was a Scottish singer-songwriter and guitarist known for his innovative and eclectic approach to folk, blues, and rock music. Born in New Malden, London, Martyn began his musical career in the 1960s, playing in coffeehouses and folk clubs in London and later moving to Scotland. He released his debut album, "London Conversation," in 1967, which showcased his distinctive style of folk music. Throughout his career, Martyn continued to experiment with different styles of music, incorporating elements of jazz, reggae, and electronica into his sound. He was also known for his use of the Echoplex, a tape delay effect that he used to create a unique and haunting sound on his guitar.
